The Wolverine Cub is an economical, residential, low flow activated carbon filter. This filter is intended for use in residential applications. This might be on home roof vents and/or yard vents. The housing is made of sturdy schedule 30 pvc. It installs in minutes with nothing more than a 10mm wrench.

When the filter arrives, the carbon will be in a separate bag with the top off the filter. You simply pour the carbon in the top, place the rain cap with perforated disc on the top of the filter, line up the bolts with the holes in the filter body and screw them in. The carbon can easily be changed by reversing that procedure. Most homeowners will find this filter will vary in lifespan based upon their situation. That said, most homeowners will find that they get 2-3 years out of the filter before having to replace the carbon.
It is easy to set up and install the Cub on your roof vent. First, measure your vent pipe. Remember, you will need one filter for each vent pipe that you have. When you are measuring your vent pipe, use this handy chart to determine what size filter you need to purchase (the “nominal vent pipe size”).

Carbon Bed Life and Contact Time Calculator
In order to calculate the life estimate of this filter, you will need to know two pieces of information. You will need to know the concentration of hydrogen sulfide in the airstream and the volume of air moving through the filter. We have a blog entry that tells you what tools you will need to derive the PPM of the H2S and the CFM of the air. You will be presented with various carbons that remove H2S, their bed contact time and carbon bed life in hours and days.
You can buy the most expensive activated carbon septic filter on the market, but it is only as good as the carbon that comes with it. The Cub contains 1 lb of Norit Darco H2S Sulfursorb Plus, a carbon designed to adsorb hydrogen sulfide and work optimally in a high humidity environment. This is the exact same carbon we use for our industrial and municipal customers across the globe.
Here are a few of the frequently asked questions we get about this product:
Can the filter freeze?
The answer is yes. Any activated carbon vent filter has the potential to freeze if there is enough moisture and cold enough temperatures. If this happens we recommend removing the filters and putting them in a warm location to let them thaw and then putting them back in place.
My carbon has an odor, is that normal?
Yes, the Norit Darco H2S Sulfursorb Plus has an odor to it. We know that sounds a little counter intuitive. Once the filter is put in place you will not smell it.
What do I do if my vent pipe is made of cast iron?
If you have a vent pipe that is made of cast iron, you would need to use a Fernco coupling and a small piece of pvc pipe. If you order a filter and coupling from us you will be sent a small piece of pipe that you can use to connect the vent pipe to the cast iron pipe.
If I buy an extra bag of carbon now, how long will it last?
As long as you leave the activated carbon in its sealed bag, it will be good indefinately
